The chipmaker, the world’s largest, said last December that it was in talks with India’s government about building a chip-making fabrication facility in the country. Guidelines to developing a semiconductor industry in India are expected from the government soon.
We are eagerly awaiting the publication of the final set of regulations, and then we will take a decision, Intel chairman Craig Barrett told reporters in New Delhi on Friday.
An Intel managing director told Reuters that it had since been repeatedly told the release of such guidelines was imminent.

Already, Intel is spending more than $1bn on R&D and investing in telecom startups in the country. A new chip fab likely would cost Santa Clara, California-based Intel an additional $1bn or so to build.
