The scheme will use Blue Cross’ Member Medical History system, which contains the complete medical records of its members, to grant doctors access to information the patient themselves may be unable to provide. It allows physicians to see immediately what medications the patient is taking and what procedures they have undergone, as well as behavioral health issues.

Thomas Rockers, CEO of St Anthony’s Medical Center, said that he was pleased to have St Anthony’s participate in the project. This pilot program is a perfect example of taking today’s technology and applying it in an innovative way to provide patient information in ‘real’ time to emergency department physicians for their use in treatment. Our collaboration with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Missouri will benefit patients and help transform how health care is delivered.

The insurer said that, depending on the success of the pilot scheme, the program could be expanded to all ER doctors affiliated with it.
