The Japanese company describes the device as an all-in-one, lightweight mobile computer which is the first of its kind to allow retailers to take customer orders and receive secure payment from one device.

The company said that it could be of great use in releasing counter and payment staff and allowing them to fulfill other customer service roles. The company elaborated on this describing the B-Pad as a ‘queue busting’ device.

Bill Waterson, UK head of retail, Fujitsu Services, commented, Retailers have already recognized the benefits of EPoS systems and this device offers the potential to extend this. By freeing staff from the counter it will transform in-store customer service by enabling them to interact more closely with customers when taking orders and payment. It is already being used very successfully in the hospitality industry by leading restaurants in the UK.
