The acquisition will add Mission Viejo, California-based Foundstone’s line of vulnerability management software to McAfee’s growing list of security offerings.
McAfee plans to combine Foundstone’s technology for spotting and dealing with software vulnerabilities with its intrusion detection and security policy management products. As part of the deal, Foundstone’s professional services group will become part of McAfee’s services team.
McAfee’s purchase of Foundstone is part of its strategy to increase its presence in the intrusion detection and prevention market. Last year, McAfee paid $100 million to acquire IntruVert Networks Inc., and $120 million to purchase Entercept Security Technologies Inc., both intrusion detection and prevention specialists.
Foundstone was founded in 1999 and is privately held. It offers a combination of enterprise software, appliances, consulting services, and education to help organizations protect their assets. The technology prioritizes and correlates assets, vulnerabilities, and threats, and supports proactive remediation to protect against threats.
In its five year-life, Foundstone has built a customer base of more than 400 large enterprise customers including AT&T, McKesson, Motorola, and other high profile government agencies.
McAfee expects the transaction to close in the next 60 days.
