Semiconductor firm Connect One has teamed up with Broadcom to help manufacturers bring their products to the Internet of Things market more efficiently.
The deal will see Connect One integrate its iChip Internet Controller with Broadcom’s WICED Wi-Fi system-on-chip to create G2 Wi-Fi modules for the IoT.
Connect One said the G2 modules will help manufacturers connect, secure, and manage IoT products and services over the Internet in "just a couple of hours".
The line should also provide easier integration to applications in areas such as home automation, medical, security, industrial control, smart grids, asset management and point of sale.
"Through our collaboration, we can deliver the high performance and functionality our customers require at a low cost. Our customers can be confident of excellent support and our joint commitment to the future," said Connect One’s General Manager Erez Lev.
The modules also include multiple hardware interfaces, firmware, and secure Internet protocols for Wi-Fi client mode and up to eight Wi-Fi users in router or access-point modes.
Connect One added that manufacturers will also gain immediate connectivity without any Wi-Fi driver development or porting, thereby minimising project development challenges and time-to-market.
Sid Shaw, Broadcom’s senior product line manager, said: "Through our collaboration with Connect One, we’re providing an easy-to-use platform for OEMs and start-ups alike to quickly design, produce and go to market with affordable, connected products."
"Manufacturers and integrators worldwide will benefit from simple integration, and a cost-effective, complete Wi-Fi solution."
