An IBM spokesperson said the total value of the contract includes hundreds of thousands of dollars in new services, including managing Fiat’s IT and business transformation processes.

The deal also gives IBM complete control over the two companies’ Global Value joint venture.

Global Value, which has 1,700 employees, was created through a $6bn deal in 2001 in which IBM Italia and Fiat Business Solutions agreed to develop software for Fiat that could also be marketed to other companies, namely in the automobile industry.

IBM has also signed an IT services contract of an undisclosed amount with brewing group Carlsberg. As part of the seven-year deal, IBM will manage IT infrastructure and services for 12 of Carlsberg’s European subsidiaries. Carlsberg announced the signing yesterday.
