Components made by STMicroelectronics will be supplied for devices including set-top-boxes, DVD players, digital video recorders, Portable Media Centers and home networking devices in addition to other consumer electronics equipment.
Windows Media 9 Series includes two-channel audio with compression technology, between 5.1 and 7.1 channels of discreet digital surround sound at bit rates of 129kbps with 24-bit resolution and 96GHz sample rates, and video resolution up to six-times the resolution of DVD-video.
STM said in a statement: We will provide consumer electronics manufacturers with a stable and cost effective platform on which to display high-quality Windows Media content in the home.
