According to the two companies, G-cluster technology is fully integrated with Alcatel’s Open Media Platform (OMP), which powers the miVision service.
The agreement aims to enable customers to play the latest console and PC games on their set-top boxes (STBs). The G-cluster technology also eliminates the need for hardware upgrades to existing miVision customer premise equipment.
G-cluster elegantly leverages the power of a broadband infrastructure for advanced gaming applications towards mainstream set-top boxes, said Ivan Verbesselt, vice president of Alcatel’s fixed solutions activities. This commercial deployment which is seamlessly integrated with the Alcatel solution will bring customers new and exciting gaming opportunities.
Nicos Timotheou, general manager of Cyta, believes the addition of G-cluster gaming to miVision’s subscriber offering will reduce acquisition cost and open a new revenue stream.
