Axalto introduces two-factor authentication product suite

Axalto has launched Protiva, a two-factor authentication product suite designed to address the weakness of password security in financial institutions and electronic commerce portals.

By CBR Staff Writer

Two-factor authentication is intended to enhance network security by combining something the user has, such as a personal device or a microprocessor card, with something the user knows, such as a PIN code. Together these elements are intended to form a unique combination that a user must possess in order to connect to the network.

Axalto believes that by using microprocessor devices such as smart cards, the Protiva suite will eliminate the vulnerability of static passwords and the risks caused by reusable passwords that can be easily hacked or stolen by unauthorized parties.

Launched in the wake of US government calls to improve online security by deploying stronger authentication and auditing capability, Marvin Tansley, director, Access Business Segment at Axalto said, Trust in identities is critical in today’s online world, too critical to continue to depend on such vulnerable mechanisms as simple passwords or static information stored on a network server.
