Entities are akin to people, companies, concepts (nouns or phrases), places, and so on. The SmartDiscovery Awareness Server effectively lets users query data sources from a single search string and then cluster according to their relevancy against selected entities.

The system comes preconfigured to search and track data from more than 600 online and enterprise sources. It now automatically provides intelligent entity-based filtering, clustering and alerts for users as well through a modified interface. Inxight said there is no need to write complex taxonomies or fine tune pre-defined lists.

Speeding up access to relevant information is the key motivating force behind melding federated search and entity extraction, according to Ian Hersey, senior vice president of corporate development and strategy at Inxight. We’re going far beyond just search, he said. Entity clustering speeds time-to-information and reduces the time wasted in paging through thousands of so-called relevant results.

Inxight said the technology has a broad range of applicability in research-oriented industries, and is particularly useful for government intelligence agencies, brand managers, and drug researchers.
