Both companies have a sharp focus on the education sector, which has remained largely untouched by business intelligence technologies up to now.

Both are now teaming up to develop joint data warehousing and analytic reporting applications solutions – specifically building mapping and ETL interfaces between Datatel’s Colleague ERP system and iStrategy’s HigherEd Analytics data models to allow for reporting and analytics.

Typically business intelligence systems are rare in the education sector, and are usually built from scratch. But this is slowly changing according to iStrategy Solutions co-founder Mark Max.

Higher education is in the early adoption stage of using advanced business intelligence technology to achieve a competitive advantage.

Founded in 1999 iStrategy Solutions a privately-held firm based in Owings Mills, Maryland. The company’s HigherEd Analytics systems comes with a pre-configured data warehouse, ETL tools and 100-plus web-based reports geared for the analysis of key higher education metrics.

Fairfax, Virginia-based Datatel was founded in 1968 to develop IT solutions exclusively for the education sector. The company’s flagship Colleague system is a comprehensive information management suite comprised of student, finance, financial aid, human resources and advancement modules. The company has over 600 clients and reports revenue of around $95m annually.
