The Round Rock, Texas-based company will provide desktop, network, and application management services to Philips’ 75,000 employees. Dell will partner with IT services companies Atos Origin SA and Getronics NV to integrate the company’s systems across 60 countries.
The deal is particularly welcome news for Getronics whose share price rose 4% in early trading after the contract annoucement. It stands to benefit by up to E90 million ($120 million) from the deal, and will begin to recognize revenue from it early next year. Getronics CEO Klaas Wagenaar hailed it as the largest win with a new client for Getronics since our recent turn around. Amsterdam-based Getronics almost went bankrupt in 2003, but a change in management and successful restructuring returned it to stability.
Philips and Dell already had a relationship. Earlier this year, the companies formed a global alliance that involved the electronics manufacturer supplying components for Dell’s computer systems.
