The system is based on Sage SalesLogix handheld and mobile CRM solution which was customized and deployed by UK-based systems integrator Pythagoras Communications. It provides sales people with real-time information such as visit history, customer information and order information.

The mobile system is being phased in. As part of phase one, contact and activity management has been rolled out in the UK, several other European countries and Australia, and the USA will follow soon. The second phase will add opportunity management and marketing, which will also be rolled out country by country.

Mobile CRM is slowly catching on but is a long way from becoming a mass market. Barriers have included issues with data synchronization with enterprise systems, although a switch to always-on devices will address that particular problem. A major issue is still the level of customization needed to ensure sufficient, relevant information can be displayed on small form factor screens.
