Twitter has rolled out a new kids-friendly version of its Vine video-sharing app, which will filter out any unsuitable content.

Despite being similar to its older sibling, the new standalone version hosts only family-friendly videos, involving funny and cute clips of animals and popular animated characters to use in their new app.

Vine’s Carolyn Penner said in a statement: "Through adorable animated characters, kids can watch videos that are appropriate for a young audience."

"Swiping right or left shows a new Vine, and you can tap the screen to hear quirky sounds."

Initially rolled out for Apple’s iPhone, the new app will offer a feed of ‘hand-selected’ six-second looping videos from Vine’s community.

The latest app launch comes after a year of growth for the Vine app, which Twitter launched in January 2013 soon after its acquisition from a startup also called Vine.

Last April, Twitter added new messaging feature to Vine that enables users to share video and text messages to any other users on the app, even if they are not in their personal address book.
