The latest vendor to tap into Ajax is Canadian firm eBusiness Applications Inc, which has developed a new software component called EBA Grid Version 3 that lets companies create spreadsheet-like interfaces inside their web applications.

Ajax, which stands for Asynchronous Javascript and XML, is a web application programming method that lets web pages behave like local applications, or rich clients, that retrieve small amounts of data from the server without reloading the entire page.

Officials at Vancouver-based eBusiness, which specializes in the development of Ajax based tools, said the software dramatically cuts the time that spent on web application development.

EBA Grid 3 also comes with an API for integration with web applications and features like data scrolling, sorting, cut-and-paste into Excel and in-place cell editing

Dave Johnson, CTO of eBusiness Applications said software is aimed a different audience than traditional developer-centric Ajax component design.

Our focus for [EBA Grid 3] is to propel the interest in Ajax by a wider array of end-users, ASP and PHP developers.

We’re doing this by providing a richer user experience than other Ajax -based frameworks coming from the open source and commercial sectors. Grid Version 3 looks, feels, and behaves like a piece of desktop software not a typical web application.

Johnson said the Ajax components that eBusiness develops go beyond what developers are able to achieve with open-source AJAX frameworks like Dojo, Prototype, and DWR.

The software is available through resellers and is also available for download from eBusiness’ website.
