The iPod movie player has long been mooted by Apple’s fans, but as of yet nothing official has made it out of the labs. Mr Cringely has suggested that when it does it may do so with an audio and video out capability.

He then postulates a situation whereby instead of renting a video, an iPod user simply goes to a Blockbuster store, downloads the movie, takes it home, plugs it into the television and watches it. The following day the video times-out on the iPod and becomes unwatchable, conveniently removing the need to take it back to the store.

Apple has definitely been making noises recently to suggest something of this nature is on the way, and while nothing has been confirmed, it certainly remains a situation to watch out for.
