Microsoft’s Collaborative Product Development (CPD) program was launched in October 2004, in an effort to help manufacturers improve their ability to collaborate on product development and design data on a global scale. It also teaches manufacturers how to access information such as digital design data to allow faster and better decision making to manage risk.

Bill Gerould, discrete manufacturing industry manager for Microsoft, commented: PTC’s commitment to removing complexity, cost, and risk from product lifecycle management (PLM) initiatives aligns with Microsoft’s efforts to improve product development process and help customers speed time to market.

PTC currently supports the Microsoft platform with its Pro/Engineer family of design software and its Windchill web-based suite of collaboration and data management programs.

PTC said it will leverage the Microsoft platform to further extend its integral PLM systems and integrate more with Microsoft’s collaboration technologies including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office Live Meeting, and Windows SharePoint Services.
