Bostrom, an eight-year veteran at Cisco, replaces James Richardson who assumes a newly created role as senior VP of its Commercial Business Unit. Both report to chief executive John Chambers.

We always try to look three to five years out in the decisions we make and there’s no question that the Cisco brand, our opportunity in the commercial market and the evolution of our leaders are going to take us to the next level, Chambers said, in a release.

The San Jose, California-based company said Bostrom also had been named an executive officer. She previously worked at National Semiconductor Corp and AT&T.
