A spokesperson at Paris, France-based Capgemini told ComputerWire that the price of the sale was JPY 4.275bn ($38.2m), and that the deal is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.

As part of the deal, the two companies have also entered a preferred-partner agreement whereby Capgemini will refer any of its clients requiring services in Japan to NTT Data. Capgemini employs 150 people in Japan, and said the operation made revenue of JPY 3bn ($26.8m) in full-year 2004.

The deal is Capgemini’s second major disposal of a non-core operation in recent months. It follows the sale, announced in April, of its North American healthcare operation to Accenture Ltd for $175m in cash.

Last year, Capgemini sold its 19 of its outsourcing contracts to the pan-Asian IT services company Frontline Technologies Corporation Ltd worth SGD 16m ($9.6m), and raised 47.5m pounds ($83m) through the sale of its remaining 14.6% stake in call center company Vertex Data Science Ltd to United Utilities.

The company also disposed of its infrastructure management units in Sweden and Norway last November to EDB Business Partner for NOK 185m ($30m).
