The acquisition of Emdeon will enable Sage to market its products to small and medium-sized businesses in the health care industry, which show clear demand for automation of business processes, it says.
Ron Verni, president and CEO for Sage Software in North America, commented, this acquisition will be our largest yet in North America. The addition of this focus in the health care sector will complement our presence in such industries as construction, real estate, distribution, manufacturing and non-profit.
With 20,000 customers, EPS’s software is used in practice management and in the maintenance of patient data. This includes administrative and financial processes such as appointment scheduling, prescriptions and billing, together with the creation and management of electronic health records. EPS support services include software maintenance and, additionally, access to electronic medical transaction services such as those facilitating claims to healthcare insurers.
Sage says it expects revenue growth to result from increasing use of software to automate doctor’s practices such as the adoption of electronic health records, and the cross-selling of Sage accounts software to EPS customers and vice versa.
