Apple and IBM are planning to release 12 applications targeting business and government sectors.
Bloomberg cited Apple CEO Tim Cook as saying that the new applications are expected to be useful for the health care, energy and utility industries.
With the introduction of the new apps, the six month old partnership now boasts a total of 22 apps. According to Cook, the apps needed to be designed for specific jobs and could not not be just a productivity tool.
Apple is trying to improve the sale of its flagship iPad, which slumped during the past four quarters, and IBM is reportedly banking on mobile software, data analytics and cloud computing for growth.
Previously, it was reported that IBM is planning to sell Apple devices with the help of its sales staff. According to reports, both companies are trying to capitalise on the use of smartphones and tablets used by employees from different industries.
