By adding personalized features such as a personalized Google homepage, the search engine titan is attempting to popularize the mobile web services it offers mobile phone users. Google faces competition in the mobile phone information services market from various major players, including Yahoo! and Microsoft.

In an interview with Reuters, Deep Nishar, Google’s product manager for wireless services, described the mobile phone as an extension of people’s personalities and said the company feels it is very important that the information you care about is just one click away.
