Virtus Data Centres has reported record annual revenues for 2014, claiming to have nearly quadrupled its customer base.

The company, which opened its flagship data centre, London2, in Hayes last year, said revenues have grown 66% per year since 2012, partly driven by existing customers expanding within VIRTUS’ facilities.

VIRTUS also said it increased its number of customers from seven to 27 last year, adding seven new customers across its LONDON1 and LONDON2 data centre estates in the fourth quarter.

The new customers include five cloud providers, a global asset management firm and a professional services organisation.

Neil Cresswell, VIRTUS Data Centres’ CEO, said: "We are very pleased with this continued growth across all business lines. It demonstrates the appeal of our new and innovative approach to data centre service delivery, which combines the best features of both the traditional wholesale and retail models from a single, pure play operator."

He added: "Providing highly connected, secure and certified facilities in London, in a customer friendly, flexible and efficient model is enabling us to better meet the evolving IT needs of customers."

It comes a week after VIRTUS announced it met energy efficiency requirements of the UK government’s Climate Change Agreement (CCA) scheme in just four weeks, with the support from energy consultancy firm Utilitywise.
