Under the fiscal year 2007 request, DHS would see 44%, or $772m, of the total $1.75bn increase in federal IT spending. That $1.75bn would represent a 3% increase in the total federal IT budget to $64.3bn.
Bush’s spending plan would increase DHS’ IT budget by 21% to more than $4.4bn, the report states. Most other civilian agencies would also see a boost, such as Housing and Urban Development with a 15% increase, Labor with 13%, and Interior with 9%.
The Input report also states that the requested budget gives priority to those agencies with the best track records for IT performance and meeting the administration’s standards for technology projects, such as having effective business cases.
