As the local service provider for London, BT says that it has delivered capability to 40% of National Health Service (NHS) trusts.

GE originally took on the contract after acquiring IDX Systems in January. In July, BT said that the contract would be handed over to US healthcare software firm Cerner.

BT was awarded a GBP996 million 10-year contract in 2003 to upgrade the NHS’s IT systems. BT has installed only one patient information system since then. In June, the telecoms firm said that it would install three more PAS systems in London acute trusts by the end of December, although sources close to the project say this is unlikely to happen.
