nCipher delivers cryptographic security software to Volvo IT

Volvo IT, a subsidiary of vehicle equipment provider Volvo Group, is deploying the nShield hardware security module from UK cryptography security firm nCipher to underpin its use of digital certificates.

Volvo IT said it will use the platform to protect the cryptographic keys that support Volvo Group’s Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Certificate Authority (CA). The PKI is designed to deliver authentication, encryption and message integrity for securing the email service that is offered to Volvo Group employees worldwide.

According to nCipher, the nShield product provides a tamper-resistant hardware environment for the management of cryptographic keys and protection of sensitive applications.
