The announcement comes a year after the launch of the firm’s ‘Operation Stop It’ initiative, which was launched last June in an attempt to pre-empt and shut down cyber scams.

MasterCard said the campaign has also led to the discovery and protection of more than 35,000 MasterCard account numbers that were in danger of being compromised, and has helped the US Secret Service make 27 arrests against computer and credit card fraudsters.

In addition, MasterCard is expected to release a new suite of technology and services that will enable its customer financial institutions to access services designed to prevent phishing attacks and other fraud. The new system is being developed with Madison, Wisconsin-based NameProtect, which lent its fraud detection technology to the Operation Stop It program.
