According to E-health Insider, Richard Bacon, a senior member of the Commons public accounts committee, wrote to the health secretary asking her to prevent Cerner being appointed as the new software supplier for the NHS in London, following a report by US analysts Leerink Swann which suggested the replacement.
BT is said to be disappointed with GE’s performance, having installed just one version of its Carecast software in London under the NHS IT program.
Last year, Fujitsu replaced IDX for Cerner in the UK’s southern region. Eight sites were planned to deploy Cerner’s Millennium software, but to date only one system at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre has gone live.
Bacon commented, given the performance of Cerner so far in the South of England, it seems rather hasty to appoint the company as the main software subcontractor for the NHS IT program in London.
