A spokesperson for the UK’s Department for Constitutional Affairs (DCA) is reported to have told the news service that full details of the pilots will shortly be released.

According to Government Computing News, people will cast their votes in the usual way. However, once the polls close, the ballot box will be taken to a counting venue and the ballot papers scanned by a device similar to the barcode readers, or ‘wands’ that are used in supermarkets.

The introduction of electronic counting is expected to make the voting process easier and more efficient.
