Earlier this week, 3Com launched what it calls the industry’s first cordless IP multi-line phones for SMEs, in partnership with Uniden America.

The wireless 3Com 3106C and 3107C have a range of up to 1,000 feet from a base unit and can be integrated with 3Com’s NBX IP telephony system.

So it can launch future wireless IP phones, the products were designed in a modular way, using radio and cordless components from Uniden and 3Com’s IP telephony technology, said Greg Zweig, 3Com senior product manager.

So if we want to make changes to the products we can essentially re-use designs… this was very intentional in our design, he said.

Zweig would not elaborate on the next-generation products it is working with Fort Worth, Texas-based Uniden on. He characterized these initial products as low-cost, plug-and-play offerings.

This is just the beginning of our relationship with Uniden, he said.

This week, 3Com also said an IP-phone chip from Texas Instruments Inc would add functionality to its upcoming VoIP enterprise phones.

TI’s TNETV1050 IP phone chip would enable 3Com to expand its IP phone product lines in both the low- and high-end enterprise markets. The chip is designed to cancel acoustic feedback between a loud speaker and a microphone on conference calls. It also enables more sophisticated phone displays

Marlborough, Massachusetts-based 3Com and Dallas, Texas-based TI have been doing business together since 1998.

While Zweig was tight-lipped on specifics, he said 3Com is getting ready to launch new products within a couple of months.

You’ll see a number of announcements from us in August and throughout the fall, Zweig said.

Next-generation desktop software is among the several different products 3Com is working on, he said. 3Com’s Convergence Center Client is among applications that would be enhanced, Zweig said.
