Zurich, Switzerland-based Esmertec offers a J2ME runtime platform designed for small devices with limited processing, memory and battery resources. It said this enables handset manufacturers, operators and application providers to create customized services on mass-market mobile and consumer devices with fast time to market.

In October it raised CHF 23.5m ($20.2m) in a funding round it said would be used to extend its product portfolio, develop its presence in Asia, and strengthen its balance sheet. At that time, CEO Alain Blancquart said the company was experiencing significant demand in its core wireless handset market and was also beginning to see shipments ramp up in the set-top box market.

Meanwhile, Esmertec has revealed it will provide ARM Ltd with software support for ARM’s Jazelle technology, according to an announcement at the European ARM Technology Congress in Paris last week. The agreement forms part of a broader relationship between the two companies to further enhance Java performance on the ARM architecture.

Esmertec will add specific features coupling its high-performance Java compiler software with ARM Jazelle technology to Esmertec’s Jbed Connected Limited Device Configuration and Connected Device Configuration JVM platforms.
