And, as part of the settlement, Symbol said it would join Intermec’s RFID IP licensing program, called Rapid Start, which gives it access to a number of Intermec patents, including RFID tags and fixed and portable RFID readers.
In addition to settling existing patent claims, the companies said all other pending and anticipated legal action between the two have been placed on hold while the two companies attempt to resolve their remaining intellectual property disputes, according to a prepared statement.
The legal spat between the two companies began in June 2004, when Everett, Washington-based Intermec sued Matrics, which Symbol later acquired, for allegedly infringing on some of its RFID patents.
Holtsville, New York-based Symbol answered back in March with its own patent-infringement lawsuit against Intermec. Intermec then filed another patent suit against Symbol.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
