Vodafone has an exclusive deal with UK satellite broadcaster, British Sky Broadcasting Group Plc until the end of March next to offer a number of its most popular television channels for Vodafone users with a 3G handset. This service is free of charge, but Vodafone intends to place a 5 pound ($8.69) monthly charge at the end of January.
Now Vodafone has launched its global Mobile TV channels, which will be rolled out across Vodafone markets from this month.
Along with the Sky content, the Mobile TV service will consist of a variety of other channels and programs including Sex and the City and Six Feet Under from US broadcaster HBO. Other channels include Eurosport, MTV, UEFA Champions League football, Discovery, and specially edited programs of 24 from Twentieth Century Fox Television.
This content will be available on any Vodafone live! Network with a 3G-enabled handset. It will complement the existing domestic Mobile TV offerings already available in eight of Vodafone’s operating countries: Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Spain, and the UK, as well as three associate networks in Belgium, France, and Switzerland, and one partner network in Austria.
