Like Samsung, LG has suffered in the face of price-cutting by Nokia and Motorola and the fourth largest manufacturer of cell phones saw shipments decline 2% sequentially to 15.3 million units.
Sales of handsets rose 10.9% to KRW 2tr ($2.1bn), leaving an operating loss of KRW 3bn ($3.1m), down from a loss of KRW 4bn ($4.1m) a year earlier.
LG predicts a 10% increase in handset shipments in the third quarter, with sales increases of CDMA phones to carriers in North America, and improvements in sales in GSM and WCDMA markets.
