The EDS-led Atlas consortium was named as the winning bidder at the beginning of the month, subject to final negotiations, which have now been completed.

The EDS Atlas team, which consists of Fujitsu Services, General Dynamics, EADS Defence and Security Systems and LogicaCMG, went head-to-head with a CSC-led group that included BT, Capgemini and Thales. The DII (F) project aims to provide a single platform across the UK’s three armed forces, and replace the myriad bespoke systems that exist at its 4,000 locations worldwide.

The size of the deal is a major boost to EDS which has struggled to win major deals over the last few years, and has suffered bad publicity from large-scale government project failures and the financial folly of its deal with the US Navy Marines Corp which has cost it around $1bn.
