UK retailer Tesco Plc plans to standardize its global IT service management on Computer Associates International Inc's Unicenter infrastructure management suite. The software will be used to manage software delivery, asset management, and remote troubleshooting capabilities for IT services delivered to nearly 1,800 UK stores, as well as the retailer's overseas operations in 12 markets in Europe and Asia.
One of the first global initiatives set aside for Unicenter will be to automate software delivery of CA’s eTrust software upgrades out to the company’s many tens of thousands of PC and handheld computing devices. Tesco is a big user of handhelds for its warehousing and stock control applications, and is said to have deployed over 12,000 PDAs in the UK alone.
