The software company filed its claim with the International Trade Commission, alleging Belkin refused to discuss a potential licensing deal for the use of U2 technology. Microsoft said it currently licenses the technology to various other companies, and has tried to engage Belkin in a licensing deal for the past two years.

Microsoft’s U2 technology enables a mouse or other peripheral to automatically sense whether a device is connected to a USB port or PS2.

Microsoft said it was not seeking damages, but rather an injunction against Compton, California-based Belkin from importing unlicensed U2 products into the US.
