To access the services, users open a browser on their mobile devices and go to mobile.aolsearch.com. They can then use the AOL Search general Web search engine, its Pinpoint Shopping comparison shopping engine, or its AOL Yellow Pages listing of local businesses.
The mobile AOL Search service gives users the ability to search the Web using any word or phrase, just as they would on the desktop. AOL’s comparison shopping search service Pinpoint Shopping allows users to find and compare features and prices for millions of products from thousands of online merchants. Finally mobile AOL Yellow Pages gives users the ability to search for local listings and take immediate action on their search results.
AOL is using technology from InfoGin to ensure that all Web pages a user clicks on from the search results are properly rendered. This includes full-screen desktop PC pages as well as those that have been designed specifically to be displayed on mobile devices.
We are committed to providing people everywhere with easy access to the Web’s full range of information services wherever they may go said Jim Riesenbach, senior vice president of AOL Search. AOL Mobile Search services give consumers the power to search or shop for anything they need via Web-enabled cell phone, Smartphone or PDA.
AOL doesn’t charge for the use of the search services, but carriers may apply data-transmission fees.
