The biometric system can automatically identify a human face, even in motion, by capturing significant facial aspects, such as the distance between the eyes, which it then matches against an internal database.
The system was inspected by the Ministry of Public Security who then recommended it for use in public offices such as airports, military bases and banks. There are also suggestions that the technology may be applied to residential areas, depending on its success.
The technology has already found success in Beijing where the police have used it to solve a number of cases.
