Currently available to four and a half million homes, the service will be delivered through the company’s personal video recorder ‘TVDrive’.
Subscribers to the TVDrive set-top box can watch free HD programs from BBC Worldwide and can expect a range of pay-per-view movies to be made available.
Boasting four times as many pixels as standard TV broadcasts, HD programs offer a sharper and more colorful picture quality.
Philip Snalune, MD of consumer products at NTL Telewest said, HDTV takes the viewing experience a significant step beyond standard digital television and has to be seen to be believed. It’s set to become this year’s must-have home entertainment experience and Telewest customers are the first in the UK to get access to it.
With satellite operator Sky also readying itself for the launch of its HDTV service later this year, and the latest entertainment equipment lending itself to the rollout of HDTV, the UK’s home entertainment market looks set to undergo a massive transformation.
