The New Delhi-based firm’s BPO division says it will hire the staff to man its recently upgraded call center in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The call center, acquired by HCL from BT in 2001, employs multi-lingual staff to provide technical and helpdesk support for financial services, retail, insurance, and telecoms firms.
BT Mobile is a key HCL client. HCL has over 300 staff devoted to providing BT Mobile customers with servicing sales, repair, billing and quality.
The new hires will bring HCL’s total workforce to around 860 people. HCL’s employee roster has risen 30% in the past year.
HCL’s move follows on the heels of major contract signed with an unnamed British retail chain.
UK-based iSOFT Group plc, an IT solutions provider for the healthcare sector, plans to invest a further $100m in its three-year old Indian offshore development center (ODC) operations.
CEO Tim Whiston said in statement this week that the money will be invested over the course of the next three years and would be directed at accelerating product research and innovation.
Whiston added that the expansion plans would increase the headcount at the Chennai located ODC from 300 to 800 by 2007.
