The financing was mostly provided by Amphion Innovations Plc, which also acted as lead investor. The amount raised includes the $813,000 the Dallas, Texas-based comapny raised in its first funding round last December. Amphion has provided $1.25m of the total amount raised, while the remaining $600,000 was raised from the sale of non-core patents.

Axcess provides RFID and Real-Time Location Systems and its battery-powered active and semi-active RFID tags locate, identify, track, monitor, and count people, assets, inventory, and vehicles.
Axcess was one of the first active-RFID hardware makers to adopt Sun Java RFID middleware for RFID readers since it was launched last June. Active RFID tags, such as those made by Axcess, transmit a wireless message typically 30 to 100 feet to palm-sized receivers. The receivers can be hooked up to an existing corporate network for asset tracking and protection, among other applications.
Active tags have greater read-write range and data content bandwidth than passive tags that have no battery, and are suitable for container shipments. Passive tags far outlive active tags, since they are only powered up when an RFID reader is reading them, and are better suited for case and pallet applications.
Axcess’s RFID solutions are also supported by its network-based, streaming digital video technology. This is useful because tag transmissions can trigger security video recording and live remote video transmission of events.
