The system requires the user to have two FOMA lines, one for the handset and one for a PC card. This is connected to a controller which communicates with different appliances and devices using either infrared or a cable connection.
Possible applications include recording a TV program and playing it back on the handset, adjusting air conditioning or house lighting, and viewing live video on the handset from the controller’s built-in, motion-sensitive camera.
DoCoMo is seeking 1,000 volunteers to test the system prior to commercial launch. All must be willing to complete a questionnaire about their use of the controller, as well as meeting some other, unspecified, criteria.
