The new manufacturing facility is part of a $24m investment by UPM Rafsec to enable it to produce one billion RFID tags annually. The new factory, which is slated to open later this year, will specialize in making ultra high frequency tags.
Last December, UPM Rafsec opened a sales and technical support centre in Chicago.
We estimate the demand for RFID tags to grow strongly especially in the US market, said Heikki Pikkarainen, president of UPM Labelstock Business, Rafsec’s parent.
