MovieBeam relies on the one-time purchase of a MovieBeam box, designed to sit on top of a TV set. Movies are beamed wirelessly into the MovieBeam Player via MovieBeam’s patented digital signal. Disney and Warner Bro’s movies will be delivered in high-definition format.
Aiming to lure consumers with exciting and new content, MovieBeam says it has secured the rights of most Hollywood studios and will make all Disney movies available on the same day they are launched on home video. It also promises up to 10 new movies every week and a minimum of 100 instantly accessible movies. The MovieBeam service claims to relieve consumers of trips to the video store and the waiting involved in receiving DVDs via the mail.
Bob Iger, president of The Walt Disney Co, said, Consumers have come to expect entertainment content when, where and how they want it, and with its increased reach, enhanced technology and support from investors like Cisco and Intel, MovieBeam will create that convenience.
