Citrix is looking to simplify IT deployments and reduce costs for IT departments after introducing its latest XenMobile suite of mobile computing apps and XenServer virtualisation platform.
The networking firm unveiled XenMobile 10 at the Citrix Summit 2015 conference, which includes a single console through which IT managers can manage both mobile devices and applications.
The XenMobile 10 also comes with a self-service portal to track, lock and wipe lost or stolen devices, which Citrix claims can reduce 20% of calls made to the IT help desk.
Other features include integration with Citrix’s NetScaler tools to control network access gateways, support for both the RSA Adaptive Authentication and the FIPS 140.2 encryption standard.
XenMobile10 should also improve productivity for employees by allowing them to create new workflows with a suite of business apps such as WorxMail, WorxWeb, WorxDesktop and ShareFile.
Chris Marsh, principal analyst of enterprise mobile app strategies at 451 Research, said: "Through integrations of its Worx apps and ShareFile service for example, it is able to deliver strong mobile user experiences, which will appeal to companies wanting to invest in mobility to drive greater worker productivity without introducing disparate and fragmented sets of technologies that they might otherwise have to deal with."
Citrix also announced the latest version of its XenServer, which is designed to reduce costs for companies and increase the number of desktops that can run on each server.
The XenServer 6.5 virtualisation platform comes with a 64-bit kernel architecture, which is designed to offer "dramatic improvements" in networking and storage performance, according to Citrix.
The latest XenServer also includes updated GPI virtualisation capabilities, which should help companies achieve a greater density of virtual desktops for 3D graphics apps.
"With a 50 percent increase in server density, customers using XenDesktop and XenApp to deliver high-end 3D graphics apps can now achieve a greater density of desktops using XenServer, resulting in dramatically reduced costs and improved end-user experience," Citrix said in a statement.
