Amazon claims it created more than 6,000 full-time jobs in the European Union last year, following a surge in demand from European customers.
The Seattle-based retailer, which now employs 32,000 people in Europe, said the new jobs were created in customer service, software development, logistics, data centres, supply chain management and design.
"Demand from our customers in the EU is greater than ever, and we see lots of promising areas to invent and invest for the future," said Amazon’s VP of EU retail Xavier Garambois.
"Over the past two years, we have created well in excess of 10,000 new jobs to add to our already large team of Amazonians, and this past year we set a new record with the addition of over 6,000 new positions."
The figure represents Amazon’s biggest expansion in Europe since the company launched its UK and German websites back in 1998.
Garambois added: "Even with all of this hiring, we remain in a phase of heavy investment and have many positions available which we look forward to filling in 2015."
