The new Health Canada Regulations, which came into effect on November 16, 2006, were created to provide consumers with greater insight into what goes into making the products they use on an everyday basis, such as toothpaste, makeup, perfume and soap.

Ingredients will now be listed according to the International Nomenclature of Cosmetics Ingredients (INCI) system, which has already been introduced in the US, Europe and Japan. From now on, only INCI names can be used on products.
