Police have arrested a fifth person in their investigation into the TalkTalk cyber attack, this time in Llanelli, Wales.

The unnamed youth was taken into custody on suspicion of blackmail. TalkTalk said that it had received a ransom demand in conjunction with the attack on October 23rd.

The 18 year old is the fourth teenager that the police have arrested in connection with the attack on its website. The breach exposed 4% of the telecom firm’s customers’ data – around 1.2 million email addresses, names and phone numbers and 21,000 bank account numbers and sort codes

The others arrested and bailed in the investigation under the Computer Misuse Act have been a 15-year-old boy from County Antrim, two 16-year-olds from London and Norwich, and a 20-year-old from Staffordshire.

When announcing its results for Q2 earlier this month, TalkTalk said revenue was up, but it has also estimated that it would take a one-off financial hit of between £30m and £35m as a result of the cyber attack.
