In addition to the license renewal extension granted by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Nextlink has submitted to the FCC filings demonstrating that it has met the substantial service requirements for 34 additional Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) licenses by building wireless networks and offering substantial service and coverage in these licensed spectrum areas.

The company expects to receive FCC approval on these service filings in the near term. Over the next several months, Nextlink will also submit filings with the FCC demonstrating substantial service requirements for its remaining LMDS licenses.

Robert Beran, president and CEO of Nextlink, said: With this extension, we are able to preserve the remainder of our licenses as we continue to expand our wireless networks to deliver mobile backhaul and alternative access solutions and offer services more broadly.
